Pellew Wilson [faleceu em novembro de 1887] ... enquanto a brisa da
Baía de Todos os Santos refrescava o casarão solene do Corredor
da Vitória.
Quem visitar hoje o pequenino Cemitério
dos Ingleses - derramado sobre o mar na Ladeira da Barra, em Salvador,
onde ele jaz no imponente mausoléu de mármore branco rodeado
de palmeiras, sentirá que Edward Pellew Wilson partiu na hora certa.
Sem detectar a inexorável perda de influência política
da família. Sem sofrer as pressões do governo de Deodoro,
que culminaram com o confisco de cinco navios da frota Wilson dois anos
depois, por Floriano Peixoto.

Edward
Pellew Wilson ... died [in November, 1887] ... whilst the breeze from
the Bay of all Saints refreshed the solemn mansion on the Corredor da Vitória.
Today, anyone who visits the little English Cemetery - overlooking the
sea on the Ladeira da Barra, in Salvador -, where he lies in an imposing
white marble tomb surrounded by palm trees, will feel that Edward Pellew
Wilson bowed out at the right time. Without feeling the inexorable loss
of political influence by the family; without suffering the pressures of
Deodoro's government which culminated in the confiscation of the five ships
of the Wilson fleet by Floriano Peixoto two years later.
